Our Princess is Dead.

She is dead.We watched her walk between the real and unreal. She told us a story, about a fierce woman in a white dress. A soldier with a hairdo we will never forget. Some of us want to marry in a white dress and get our hair done for our wedding. Princess Leia showed us that women are more than just marrying machines. Put a quarter in us and we will marry you. But her dolls don’t dance, they kill. She represented the strength of beauty. The actress, the person, was as beautiful inside as she was damaged. She dealt with her mental illness with grace and humor. She was not ashamed of her Bipolar Disorder, she, in fact, advocated for others to not be ashamed and speak out.She wasn’t just Princess Leia, she was a woman, a real woman. She spoke out against body shaming. She believed as she grew older that her body was still beautiful. She was precious, precious to our understanding of ourselves. In her younger years, she wore a bikini in front of a monster. Some boys could never forget that image. Literally, that was probably the most famous fantasy of any celebrity of that time. I wonder what it’s like to be the object of every young man’s affection. Not just the average man, but also geeks and freaks and those society shame for being different. She was everybody’s girl.Men wanted to be her hero, but she was the heroine. She was the one with the power. Usually, when we think of white dresses we think of innocence. In a wedding, it signifies a virgin. Madonna, who will die one day too, can attest to the fact that we are all like a virgin. We are innocent but strong nevertheless. It doesn’t take away from our purity, this inherent ferocity. Maybe she was an angel, an angel with an agenda. A girl with guts. Her image on and off screen was that of a woman on a mission. There were light displays in cities across America in her honor. Respect. We give her respect. We do this because she was our American Woman. So perhaps the day that she died was the day the music actually died. So bye bye, Miss American Pie…This will be the day that I die. This will be the day that I die…nina
