I Will Walk

standing up because sitting down will ruin your eyes.

I will walk beside you because you are like a note

I haven’t written yet, one I intend on plagiarizing.

What language will we speak in?

Or shall we just stare at the wind

watching the circles of air make their way through our mouths?

Where are we going?

You and I are strangers really we don’t know each other

or where we can go to be who we really are not.

Am I in your way?

Would you prefer to dance to your destination?

Would you rather I walk behind you and never say your name?

I recognize you, I know the way you stand when no one is watching.

Would you rather I not mention your stillness or the way in which

you stare at sunshine in another room

and ignore your own houseplants.

You are my friend, I will walk with you through it all

even the times when the water doesn’t make sense.

When nothing tastes right

and all we can do is be thirsty.

I will walk on flaming coals in order to bring you a flower.

And I will sit in the snow only to wait for your face to uncover

the ice in my eyes.

I will walk until I see you.

It is much like walking for Cancer

or dancing for rain. There is no other reason.

We walk together because really, what else is there to do?

We are going nowhere, but it seems like it is a circle.

I am walking towards me, and will always bump into you.
