Dining Room

So I've been decorating our house for many years and a couple of years ago I mentioned on this blog that we got new carpet and furniture. Well that's when I really had my say, we used to have tables that were like forty years old. They were solid wood, but still, we needed a change.

We didn't go ultra modern, we kind of went contemporary. I'm not even sure what that means, and I don't really know the difference. All I know is I could not let my parents pick out the furniture out by themselves. They let me lead and we all decided together on what to get.

I think a home should be a temple of sorts, that's why I have hung like five pictures of Buddha on the walls, even though we are not Buddhist. I tend to start collecting things, like I have a collection of China from China and Japan that I got at thrift stores. You may also notice from some of these pictures that I have an obsession with pillows. Even on the outside deck, I have outdoor pillows.

My collection of Chinese and Japanese knick knacks

Lately, I've mostly stopped collecting house stuff and now I collect jewelry and clothes since my size keeps changing because I'm losing weight. Mind you I realize I have a shopping problem, but look at all the beautiful stuff I've bought over the years.

I know, I need to save my money. I'm trying. But on another note I really enjoy color, you may have noticed. When I show you my wardrobe you will really see what I mean.

My mom actually picked out the couch for our living room, which shocks me because it's exactly the color I would have picked out. It's leather, which is what my dad really wanted. I, of course, have been collecting the pillows for decades.

I'm also on a plant kick at the moment. You may remember several years ago I posted a picture of a plant that I killed. Well, those days are over, I am a new woman and am tending to my indoor and outdoor plants very well.

My Living Room In My Basement Apartment

Now the rest of the pictures are of my very own apartment in the basement. It even has a separate entrance. This is my space and I adore it. I know, I know, me and the pillows! I was going to make a meditation room with more pillows, believe it or not, I have more pillows but I don't like sitting on the floor. I like to sit on my couch and recline it when I meditate. Very modern and American of me, I know.

My Study In my Space

Above is a picture of my study desk, that I put a bunch of stuff on, but that I never use. I don't use it because the chair is not comfortable. I'm looking to steal the chair in our upstairs study so I can use this table.

My Personal Kitchen

I did put a bunch of cactus's where there is no window for direct sunlight, we will see how long that lasts. I love these little colored cacti though. (Is it cactus's or cacti?) It's anyone's guess. I write this blog from various places around the house, currently, I'm outside on the deck again because it's beautiful out here.

Another Living Room in My Space

Inside, or outside, I love this house. Yes, I'm a forty-year-old woman literally living in my parent's basement. But it is a beautiful space, is it not? I put a lot into making it livable if this is where I'm going to be right now.

You may note that there is no picture of my bedroom. It's not because it's a horrific mess, it's actually that everything that was on top of the shelf of my closet fell to the floor yesterday because I have too many clothes in the closet and it can't hold the weight. I know. So it is kind of a mess now, but I have to organize that stuff. I'll show you that when I reveal my wardrobe on the blog.

Me In Front of My Broken Closet

For now, this is home. And it's not too shabby.

I am grateful.
